Georgia Prostitution & Solicitation Defense Attorney

In Georgia, like most place in the United States, it is illegal to buy or sell sexual favors. You can be arrested whether you are the seller, the buyer, or the middleman. Georgia has several laws concerning prostitution, making it a crime to work as a prostitute, solicit a prostitute, or serve as a facilitator in the exchange of sex for money or other valuables. These crimes fall under three general categories:

Prostitution

A person can be charged with prostitution if he or she offers to perform sexual acts for money or other items of value. Even if the sexual act did not take place, or if money was never exchanged, a crime may still have been committed.

It is also illegal for a massage therapist to engage in masturbation for hire, or even to give massages in a place used for prostitution.

Solicitation of Prostitution/Pandering

If someone solicits sex in exchange for money or other valuable items, they can be charged with pandering. It is also a crime to solicit another person to commit an act of sodomy. If you attempt to hire a prostitute, even if sex never occurs and you never provide payment, you can still be charged. The penalties for this crime vary, but if the prostitute is underage, the penalties are much greater.

Pimping

It is illegal to facilitate prostitution, including procuring, directing or transporting a person for sex work. It is a crime to knowingly receive money made from prostitution. These actions can result in a charge of pimping. If the prostitute was underage or coerced into sex work, a pimp faces increased punishments.

It is also a crime to keep a place of prostitution. If you run a brothel or knowingly allow property you control to be used for prostitution, you may be charged with a crime.
